Sponsored by the Institute of World Politics’ Center for Culture and Security, the purpose of this conference is to discuss pressing issues concerning Iran today and its prospects for a free and democratic future. Invitees include academics, political and human rights experts and activists, students, and others from throughout the world.<\/p>\n

Speakers and\u00a0<\/strong>p<\/strong>articipants<\/strong>\u00a0include: U.S. Congressman Trent Franks (R-AZ), U.S. Congressman Jeff Duncan (R-SC)\u00a0(invited)<\/i>, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R- TX), U. S. Senator Jeff Sessions (R- Ala), Prince Reza Pahlavi (the last crown prince of the former Imperial State of Iran), Amir Abbas Fakhravar (Research Fellow at Institute of World Politics, award winning writer and jailed dissident), and Kenneth Katzman (Specialist in Iran and Middle East Affairs at the U.S. Congressional Research Service)<\/p>\n

There will also be a panel discussion with several Interim Committee members of the\u00a0National Council of Iran<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/strong>including: Cina Dabestani (Moderator), Riza Pirzadeh, Nazila Golestan, Shahin Nejad, Amir Golalipour, and Dr. Saeed Ganji.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, March 7, 2013, the Center for Culture and Security at The Institute of World Politics and the Confederation of Iranian Students co-hosted a conference on democratic transition in Iran, at which the The National Iran Council was introduced.<\/p>\n

Speakers included Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ), Prince Reza Pahlavi (the last crown prince of the former Imperial State of Iran), Amir Abbas Fakhravar (Research Fellow at Institute of World Politics, award winning writer and jailed dissident),\u00a0and several Interim Committee members of the National Council of Iran, including: Cina Dabestani (Moderator), Riza Pirzadeh, Nazila Golestan, Shahin Nejad, and Amir Golalipour.\u00a0 In addition, MAJ Malcolm Warbrick read a\u00a0statement from Senator John Cornyn (R-TX)<\/a>, and\u00a0Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) sent a video message<\/a>, which was played at the conference.<\/p>\n
